My Adventures In Melbourne: a “Girls’ Weekend Away” in Melbourne

I have just returned from spending the weekend in Melbourne, and I had such a fabulous time, and I thought I would share my adventures with you! So many cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries and theatres to choose from in Melbourne, so I will share with you what I did.

I went to Melbourne mainly to have a girls’ weekend and meet my friend Anna, who lives in Perth. I also decided to take the opportunity to have a showing of my new designs to my Melbourne customers too!

On Saturday we had lunch at this great little Italian restaurant, Il Solito Posto. It’s a very cosy, old school place, with the best fresh italian food (amazing eggs if you get there in time for breakfast) and a to-die-for chocolate pudding! If only they were open on Sunday’s, I would have gone twice!

After Italian, we visited the National Gallery of Victoria, mainly to view the MOMA exhibition. It was a great chance to see work from artists like Picasso, Mondrian, Delauney, Duchamp, Warhol and Lichtenstein.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the size of the NGV- it is massive! I had been here before, but for some reason I only ever viewed the one exhibition. Who knows why?! And there were many other exhibitions that we would have liked to have seen, but we ran out of time. I am so happy we had enough time to see the Japonisme exhibition. It was my favorite of the two exhibitions mentioned, and it was free, compared to the other being a ticketed event.

Personally I wish I had’ve had more time and was able to allocate a whole day to just visiting the gallery, as simply put, three hours is nowhere near enough time to see even half of it.

Next, we changed pace completely and went to a concert at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda. Whenever I go to Melbourne I think it’s nice to see something live, and other times it’s been a musical. However there was no musicals of interest showing. So I booked the Ultimate Queen Celebration on a whim, and we were blown away! Marc Martel does an amazing job of sounding so much like Freddie Mercury while also adding his own element of himself to the show and songs. Anna and I both agreed it was the highlight of our stay in Melbourne and we would have booked tickets again to see it for our husbands if it wasn’t the last concert in Australia that night.
