style tip: how to tie a Penelope Red bow tie video
Check out how to tie the bow above and many others in the May 2012 Newsletter here.
style tip: add some costume jewellery (above)
For me, the above outfit was the perfect excuse to get out my mother's bright red crystal necklace and make it a feature! You could try this outfit with a string of pearls, or a fabulous statement vintage necklace. Red lips give this top even more flare!
style tip: winter gloves (below)
We just happened to have gloves that matched perfectly, but even if you don't, try matching your gloves with your shoe and bag colour instead. Either way, I love a good pair of gloves in Winter! They help to make any outfit elegant!

Style Tip: making one style versatile (below)
In the below photo, we are all wearing the same exact style, just in different colours. I wanted to show you eaxactly how flattering it is on differnet people and how easy it is to transform this style by adding different accessories. I am even 5 months pregnant in the photo (I am on the LHS), and it is still one of the most flattering and comfortable dresses I can wear.
Please click on the image or here if you would like to see this style in the online shop.
Style Tip: mixing strong colours & textures together (above)
When mixing a lot of different textures together, like in the outfit above, I find it easy to do this because I have made sure that there is a common denominator between them all. In this case, the black contrasts. This way your eyes do not become confused and they have a clear focus point.
lucy's beauty notes
Make up artist (and model for this collection), Lucy Topp, has shared with us her make up tips and tricks to get the Penelope Red look for this season...
Colour For The Eyes:
The trick with this makeup look is to do the eyeshadow FIRST. When using such strong colours the shadow will fall onto your cheeks and ruin your base!! I first primed my lids, added foundation and set with powder to give shadow something to adhere to.
I used Napoleon colour disc 56 on the inner corners (orange) and Napoleon colour disc 13 (purple) on the outer corners and blended into the crease! I then added gold by Inglot ‘Shine 06’ to the very inner corners and to the brow bone
The Base:
I then went on to do my base (I just used my own daily base but more of it!) which is Clinique ‘Even Better’ foundation in 01, Maybelline Cover stick in fair and set with Natio translucent powder which is a great one for pale complexions.
Style Tip: (above)
Again, this style is featured! Just look at how different it looks again, this time by adding lace gloves, a skinny belt and a few extra vintage accessories. With this dress your personality can shine through!
Defining the Eyes:
I filled in and defined my brows with Inglot brow powder and an angled brush for perfect application and set with a clear mascara. I did strong liquid ‘Catseye’ liner with Mac fluidline in ‘Black track’... my lashes with Maybelline ‘Full and Soft’ and added a strip of false lashes!
And To Finish Off...
Cheeks were a pinky peach from the Ben Nye professional pallette, blended well into the cheekbone. Lips were lined with ‘Brick’ from Mac and filled in with ‘Russian Red’ a nice true dark red! Voila you have the ‘Penelope Red’ look! Xxx Lucy
